Marie Cole has lived in the Hudson Valley since the early 60s. After living in Rhinebeck for many years, she now lives in Germantown by the river, in a converted warehouse.
After working on a series of sunsets three years ago, Cole explored large-scale landscapes of the Hudson Valley in winter, continuing her exploration of work in a series. The chilly weather of fall and winter are especially exciting times of the year to paint in these areas. Its a challenge to see how much color can be found in the landscape at that time of year.
Marie is currently working on a new series entitled On the Road. It consists of paintings, drawings and monotypes of the country roads in Dutchess, Columbia and Greene County.
She is also continuing a series of semi-abstract, landscape-based monotypes.
Marie graduated from Vassar College and taught at Dutchess Community College for several years. Her paintings are in corporate and private collections from coast to coast. She shows locally at the Tivoli Artists Co-op, Columbia County Council on the Arts, Greene County Council on the Arts, and at other galleries throughout the east coast.
